Project Description:
The applicant should have experience or background in one or more of the following:
- Distributed data management
- Web-services
- Semantic Web
- Solid programming skills (e.g. Java, Perl, Python)
- Databases
The successful applicant will work with the Earth System Grid (ESG) team within the National Center for Computational Science and Computer Science and Mathematics Division to extend ESG to support a variety of Observational datasets that are of high value to climate change researchers. Mechanisms of extracting metadata, publishing a variety of observational datasets, and enabling facetted search capabilities will be developed within the ESG framework. Other work will include integration and development of next-generation rich-client access tools will be developed to allow spatial/temporal reprojection, climate-model/observational dataset intercomparison, and data analysis capabilities in a federated data environment.

A free scholarship programs in computer science, earth and geosciences, environmental and marine science, or closely related field is required.
Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and all degree requirements must be completed before starting the appointment.
